Art and Science in Modern Cities is a faculty-led summer study abroad program at Montana State University. It offers an immersive, dynamic, and distinctive environment in which students actively undertake onsite investigations into profound moments in the development of humanity. Open to all undergraduate and graduate majors, with no classrooms, the program focuses on art, architecture, urbanism, technology, and science in the context of modern cities. In Summer 2027, the program will take place in Istanbul and Seoul over the course of four weeks, offering two 3-credit (non-studio) courses that correspond with the two cities. The core component of each course is a two-week-long intensive series of onsite studies on selected historical and contemporary artifacts and practices in situ.

May 25 – June 23, 2027
Travel in Istanbul and Seoul (4 weeks).
June 24 – August 6, 2027
Independent work period (6 weeks).

Cost

Program Fee
$5,900 – Administered by the program. The program fee covers travel in and between Istanbul and Seoul, lodging for 30 days, sites and museums admissions, health and travel insurance, and program administration.
OIP Mandatory Study Abroad Fee
$300 – Administered by the University's Office of International Programs (OIP).
